New York, Paris, Rome, …. ? I am running a poll on my Facebook Page. Please click on the link to participate.
An article on the subject will be published soon after. Thanks!
To me, Paris will obvioulsy always be the best !
I haven't been to New York, Paris nor Rome, so I don't how it feels like to shoot the street there.
But, to answer your question, my dream destination(s) for street photography are places where I have never been before. I think documenting the travel itself that counts.
I agree, yet believe me that there are cities which are completely uninspiring for street photography. For example, Pune where we currently are. I recently found an ok neighbourhood but apart from that, I prefer to write articles ;)
New York was hands down the best for me but, I guess it's all preference….
Hi Brett, according to the poll, it is the majority of many. It is probably also about confort zone, New York is an easy destination. Bangkok or Paris are more challenging environment for example. Also, I guess that we all have pictures in mind of great NYC street photographers, while others cities we have never seen.
Well, as a parisian, I don't see Paris as a paradise for street photography… because of Parisisans of course, very suspicious (if not agressive) in front of street photographers. No problem with shooting Eiffel tower, but when it comes to shoot people… But I am surely not as experienced as you are, and it probably counts.
The subject of Parisians is a difficult one. Yes, they can be pretty rough on you but overall, I can't say that I had a lot of bad reactions. I played the tourists and never tried to hide what I was doing. Obviously ,there are people and areas of Paris I would never shoot. Just too dangerous, but overall if you stick to the classics, it is fine.
Merci pour les compliments et à bientôt, cordialement, Yanick
Just like Alex, I'm a parisian and I think Paris street photography is very hard, but it gives to me the most beautiful gallery of depressed and agressive peoples… My favorite place is New-york !
Sinon, comme Alex, mille bravos pour le site !
HI, see above for the answer to Alex. Maybe there is some psychological barrier here. Maybe you anticipate too much bad reactions that you trigger them ? Food for thought I guess. But usually, if you don't hide, look normal and say thanks and something funny, you are fine. There are a lot of great people in Paris too !
