… the shots in yesterday’s post were all shot with the 35mm Lux Asph on the Leica M8. I guess this must come to a surprise to many since few of you got both sides of the equation correct. It probably was a bit tricky since these shots definitely have a 35mm look (distortion + the way I chose shots with wide scenes), yet the crop factor resulted in a 50mm field of view. You’ll also notice that it is quite difficult to recognize a camera’s output based on a web image, even at 1280 pixels. The reality is that both the M8 and M9 are wonderful performers and are very close in quality.
So we have made it to London and in my bag is the Leica M8 with the 35mm Lux Asph. The one camera and lens approach. The Sigma DP2 will serve as backup and landscape specialist. It was a tough decision, but in the end I was convinced it was the best one. I’ll come back tomorrow on the drivers of this decision and a little comparison M8 vs M9. Meanwhile, here is a first series on London. Being in England, I thought it would be good to show some pubs and bars scenes … (click on pictures for high res).
