The backwaters are a series of lakes and lagoons that border the Arabian Sea Coast of India. We therefore elected to go on a one day cruise on a converted grain barge. The engine is as powerful as a lawn mower yet the slow ride let's us admire the scenery. A stop in a little village allows us to see men climbing trees, though some of them almost look like they came out straight from a B series. In the afternoon, a little boat takes us on a journey through tiny canals in a jungle like atmosphere. The captain carefully avoids tree leaves and sand banks. I expected to see many animals but, in the end, the best show seemed to be happening … behind me.  (click on pictures for high res)

  1. Well done-like usual.

  2. Beautiful work – and I especially love the last shot, as it perfectly illustrates what you mean about the most interesting things not always being where we expect them to be!
